Importance of adopting the right mental approach to your job search

Staying positive is not just a cliché

A job search can be like a roller coaster. There will be highs and there will be lows. The main focus should always be to stay positive and here is why.

If you are positive and optimistic it means you have hope and this eventually turns to success. Optimism will make you want to explore more opportunities and one of those opportunities may open the door that you need.

If you are negative and pessimistic means you have lost or are losing hope. The effort you put into your search will be reduced and because of this you may miss the opportunity that will open the door that you need.

How to stay positive

  • Have a routine and plan
  • Set minor goals to achieve (they don’t just have to be about your job search)
  • Surround yourself around positive friends/family
  • Keep a list of your achievements that you can look at to help feel better about yourself in down times.
  • Watch an uplifting film such as “Jerry McGuire” or “Pursuit of Happiness” to get your spirits up.
  • Exercise and use time to get fit.
